Southridge's Johnson voted girls 3A state MVP

Heather Johnson was voted the 3A girls state soccer MVP by Washington's high school coaches, heading up a list of 19 Mid-Columbia representatives on the team at five different levels.

Johnson, a junior forward who recently committed to Gonzaga University to play soccer in the fall of 2012, set Southridge school records with 31 goals and 18 assists while leading the Suns to their first state trophy. She was also named first-team all-state as a sophomore.

Johnson was also named the CBBN 3A co-player of the year along with Hanford defender Kie Johnson, who was also named first-team all state. The Falcons defender started the year as a midfielder but moved to central defense at midseason, a switch that helped Hanford capture a share of its first league title since 2005.

Meghan Sorensen, a Southridge defender, joined her teammate Johnson on the first team. Paige Sorensen, Meghan's twin sister, earned a nod as second-team midfielder, along with Hanford's Cari Exarhos.

Richland defender Kenzie Lubeck was named to the 4A first team, while Bombers teammate Sam Lee picked up a second-team nod. Chiawana forward Erin Huisingh was named to the second team after leading the Riverhawks to their first state soccer berth in school history.

Prosser defender Brooke Adams picked up her first berth on the 2A first team, while teammate Helen Peterson was named to the second team.

At the 1A level, Kiona-Benton defender Breanna Scott earned a spot on the second team after leading the Bears to state for the second straight season.
