Southridge girls reach state soccer semis

FEDERAL WAY -- Heather Johnson scored twice to put Southridge up 2-0 in the first half, but it was a pair of freshmen -- Michelle Foster and Hanni Sanders -- who scored what would be the game-winning goal against Decatur, sending the Suns to their first-ever Final Four berth with a 3-2 victory.

Southridge (16-4) will play Seattle Prep (13-1-7) -- a 5-0 winner over Capital on Friday -- at 2 p.m. Friday at Harry E. Lang Stadium in Lakewood.

Sanders dribbled in from the left flank and along the end line, where she centered it to Foster running in from the weak side. Foster tapped the ball past goalkeeper Kayla Lipston for a 3-2 lead in the 46th minute.

"This is huge. We've got a core group of juniors who have worked so hard and great leadership from (senior twin sisters) Paige and Meghan Sorensen, who both had huge nights," said Southridge coach Riley Dodson.

Suns keeper Ingrid Stein made a big save against Abby McFaul at the end of the first half, stonewalling a one-one-one breakaway that could have given the Gators a 3-2 lead.
