E. Valley edges Prosser for CWAC district soccer title

PROSSER -- Ashlee Betancourth scored in the 66th minute off an assist by Yasi Mohsenian to lead visiting East Valley past Prosser 1-0 for the 2A CWAC district championship.

Karlee Ward made five saves to preserve the shutout for East Valley, which had split the season series against Prosser 1-1 entering Tuesday's match.

The Red Devils move on to a first-round state game next Wednesday in Yakima as the top seed in District 5/6/7. They will play host to the winner of Saturday's regional match between East Valley of Spokane and Ellensburg.

East Valley coach Tim Ostrander said his team gained momentum in the second half against Prosser, which advances to state as the district's No. 3 seed.

Ellensburg 2, Othello 1

Allesha Reyes had 12 saves on the day and Lindsay Garza scored unassisted in the 68th minute, but host Othello still fell to Ellensburg.

The Huskies will play at Greater Northern League's No. 1 Pullman at 1 p.m. Saturday for state seeding.

Highland 1, Kiona-Benton 0

Martha Nunez had eight saves on the day for host Kiona-Benton, but Highland's Susy Jimenez scored in the 78th minute on a kick that spun out of Nunez's gloves and into the net in a SCAC 1A district tournament contest.

The Bears will play against Naches Valley 4 p.m. Thursday at Royal to determine the No. 3 seed to state.

The championship matchup between LaSalle and Highland will follow at 6 p.m.
