Soccer: Exarhos helps Hanford shut out Kamiakin

RICHLAND -- Cari Exarhos headed in a corner kick from Haille Heid in the 57th minute for the only goal of the match, giving Hanford a 1-0 shutout win over Kamiakin.

The Falcons will play Mt. Spokane -- the top seed out of the GSL 3A -- at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 3A regional semifinal.

The Falcons' back four of Kie Johnson, Heather Baddley, Kendall Riddelle and Sydney Shintaffer helped limit the Braves to just two shots.

Hanford goalie Emily Busselman also made a key first-half save, diving to her left to stop a shot by Gabriella Kurz.

Prosser 2, Ellensburg 0

Alex Hart and Madison Moore provided a pair of goals and Prosser's defense shut down another top scoring threat in a CWAC district semifinal win over visiting Ellensburg.

The Mustangs, led by CWAC defensive player of the year Brooke Adams and converted forward Helen Petersen, put a clamp on CWAC offensive player of the year Hadli Farrand. The Bulldogs did manage 12 shots, but none found their mark.

"Teams tend to leave our forwards 1-on-1 when Helen is playing back. I guess they feel comfortable," said Prosser coach Marcelino Rodriguez. "Now they're having to double- and triple-team Madison.

Prosser will play host to East Valley at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday for the district championship.

Delany Romero scored the only goal of the match with seven minutes remaining in regulation as Naches Valley eliminated Connell from the SCAC district playoffs.
