Prosser nabs rare win vs. East Valley

PROSSER -- Toni Adams scored the game-winning goal for Prosser when East Valley goalkeeper Brianna Hallenbeck collided with a defender in the 70th minute, leaving an open net for the Mustangs in a 2-1 CWAC victory over the visiting Red Devils on Saturday.

It was the Mustangs' first win over the Red Devils in eight seasons and East Valley's first CWAC loss of the year.

"We have six freshmen helping out and (team scoring leader) Helen Peterson played on defense today," said Prosser coach Marcelino Rodriguez. "We had to switch players around. It helps when other players can step it up instead of having just one star player."

SELAH -- Lindsay Garza scored in the 87th minute on an assist from Alexis Martinez, and visiting Othello edged Selah to improve to 6-2 in 2A CWAC play. Selah fell to 4-4 in league.

Richland 3, Wenatchee 1

RICHLAND -- Bria Caldwell scored in the sixth minute on an assist from Chynna Dickey and again in the 57th minute on Sam Lee's second assist of the game as Richland (10-1) earned the CBBN 4A's top seed to districts with a victory over Wenatchee at Bomber Field

Wenatchee's Korynn Blanksma scored on a penalty kick in the 50th minute to save the Panthers from a shutout. Bombers goalkeeper Shelby Long went the distance for three saves and the win.

KENNEWICK -- Brooke Benecke scored two goals and Randi Andreatta had a goal and an assist to lead the Suns past the visiting Wildcats in a CBBN 3A match at Southridge.

Ingrid Stein made six saves for Southridge, which kept pace with league co-leader Hanford, a 1-0 winner over Kamiakin.

PASCO -- McKenzie Finnicum and Angie Crutchfield scored 7 minutes apart in the first half and Pasco controlled play throughout in a CBBN 4A win over Kennewick at Edgar Brown Stadium.

The Bulldogs are locked into the league's sixth seed at district, which starts Thursday. On Tuesday, they will entertain West Valley, a possible first-round opponent in the postseason.
