The News Tribune in Tacoma released its 2011 Preseason All-State team this week, and four Mid-Columbians highlight Doug Pacey's list.

Connell senior running back Matt Hadley made the offensive team. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Hadley is coming off a state record-tying season in which he scored 50 touchdowns. The BYU signee is the two-time Class 1A player of the year.

On the defensive side of the ball, Chiawana senior Jordan Downing (6-1, 200) made the preseason squad as a linebacker, as did Richland senior Sawyer Powell (6-2, 210).

Chiawana senior Miquiyah Zamora (6-2, 205) also made the team as a returner.

Downing was the CBBN 4A MVP last season, while Powell has committed to BYU. Zamora was first-team all-league last season, averaging 14.6 yards per punt.

Meanwhile, Kent's Ron Siegel, who puts out a preseason all-state team in football and basketball, just released his preseason all-state football team for seniors, and several Mid-Columbians appear.

On defense, Hadley and Zamora are listed as multi-purpose players, and Davis' David Trimble is a multi-purpose player on offense.

Numerous others are on the Other Seniors to Watch list, including quarterbacks Lucas McGill of Eastmont and Deion Wright of Davis.

Othello's Caleb Garza and Sunnyside's Steven Mont-gomery are listed at running backs, while Walla Walla's Moe Handcox and Davis' Cooper Kupp are at wide receiver.

Linemen Dennis Christensen of Richland and Keenan VanHollebeke of Connell also made the list, as did Downing, Powell and Selah kicker-punter Daniel Hernandez.

First games are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 2, the day the Herald's high school football section will be published.
