WALLA WALLA -- Gary Winston converted a three-point play for Walla Walla with 20 seconds remaining, hitting a layup and the foul shot for the game-winning points as the No. 7 Blue Devils handed No. 4 Richland its first loss of the year, 51-49 in CBBN Cascade play Friday night.
The Bombers had a few chances to tie the game in the remaining 20 seconds. Dylan Radliff missed a jumper off a set play, and Garrett Gallinger's 12-footer rolled in and out with 2.6 seconds left before Colton McCargar's follow-up attempt missed as well.
"We felt if we could get (the score) into the 60s we could win it," said Richland coach Earl Streufert. "(Walla Walla) defended very well. They took away a lot of things we normally get."
Radliff hit a pair of free throws to give the Bombers a 49-48 lead with 32 seconds remaining before Winston got free for the go-ahead layup.
