Tuesday local roundup: Southridge soccer tops Hanford

Haley Thomas, Kelly Brown, Morgan Nelson and Savannah Brown each scored goals in the shootout as visiting Southridge hung on to beat Hanford 2-1 in a Mid-Columbia Conference girls soccer match on Tuesday night.

Kambree Gaddish scored the game-tying goal in the 79th minute for Southridge. which finished second in the Class 3A state tournament.

Sadie Newsom and Kelsee Winston each scored in the shootout for the Falcons.

KAMIAKIN 6, RICHLAND 0: Heather Donais scored two goals and added an assist as host Kamiakin opened MCC play with a shutout of Richland.

Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson praised here defensive unit’s play.

“Kaylee Kraft took care of Samantha Heilman in first half, and marked her well,” said Erikson. “It just stabilized everything in the middle for us. I think she’s a leader back there.”

Rilee Castilla added a goal and two assists for the Braves, while keeper Grace Wilbur came in to play the second half and had six saves.

“Our back line played pretty well,” said Chiawana coach Rich Zoller. “Kennewick is much improved. It’s the best team they’ve had in a while.”

RICHLAND 3, KAMIAKIN 0: Kamry Breard had a big night with 10 kills, 16 assists and 10 digs to lead the Bombers past the Braves in their MCC opener at Art Dawald Gym.

Taylor Moody handed out 19 assists for Richland, while Lainie Lacey had 15 digs.

Allison Stapleton led the Braves with six kills, while Carlee Rowell had five kills and Kennedy Sarver 17 assists.

“It was really great to start out strong,” Pasco coach Jackie Fluaitt said. “Walla Walla has a lot going, they will be someone to contend with.”

Ashlin Orosco added six kills and Victoria Estes 14 assists for Pasco, which will host Kamiakin today.

SOUTHRIDGE 3, HANFORD 0: After nearly blowing a 24-19 lead the first game, the Suns righted their ship en route to an MCC victory over the visiting Falcons.

McKenna Behrens led Southridge with 13 kills and 14 digs, while Kamailie Moody had 28 assists and Kennedy Conrad 12 digs.

“It’s a new beginning,” Suns coach John Lengphounpraseut said. “It’s early, but we will be fine. We need to make adjustments and play together as a team.”

“We had our fair amount of errors, but we did some good things at times,” Chiawana coach Jim Steach said. “They played hard and gave us some problems.”

Ashtin Olin handed out 30 assists for the Riverhawks, who also got nine kills from Bethanie Nelson.

OLYMPIC 3, CBC 0: Brylie Barnett had 11 kills and 12 digs to lead the Rangers to a nonleague win over the Hawks in Pasco.

“It was a tough morning,” said CBC coach Sandra Olin, who has 10 freshmen on her squad. “Hopefully we can work out the kinks before league starts.”

McKenzie Monahan led the Hawks with five kills, while Kelly Wilson had 10 assists.

Olympic split its matches on the day, falling 25-12, 25-23, 26-24 to powerhouse Blue Mountain.
