Former Richland High School swimmer Lisa Bratton was 18th overall after the preliminaries of the women’s 200-meter individual medley Thursday at the Phillips 66 National Championships in San Antonio.
Bratton won her heat in 2 minutes, 15.79 seconds, dropping about 2 seconds from her seed time of 2:17.74. She entered the event seeded 48th.
Though Bratton was in the top 24, she was not in the “C” final (17th-24th place) because it was limited to the top 18-and-under swimmers who did not qualify for the “A” (top eight) or “B” (eighth-16th) finals. Bratton turned 19 in May.
Bratton, who is representing the Tri-City Channel Cats club team and Texas A&M University at the meet, will compete today in the 100 backstroke. She’s seeded 28th with a time of 1:02.01.
Saturday, she will swim in the 400 IM, where she’s looking for her fourth 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials cut.
Bratton’s strongest event, the 200 backstroke, comes Sunday. She was third in 2014 and is seeded second this year.
• Pasco’s Andy Gelston was 16th in the boys 10-and-under 200-meter freestyle Wednesday at the Western Zone Age Group Championships in Kihei, Hawaii. Gelston was timed in 2:36.49.
