Chiawana edges Pasco 66-64 in overtime

The Chiawana boys basketball team escaped with a 66-64 overtime victory Tuesday against visiting Pasco.

The Riverhawks' win was only secure when Pasco's desperation 3-pointer was off the mark.

"I thought our inexperience showed," Chiawana coach Chad Herron said, "but we were able to fight through it."

Pasco jumped out to a 22-7 lead after the first quarter, but Chiawana was able to rally behind the stellar play of Miquiyah Zamora.

"We got into a press and caused some turnovers," Herron said, "and got back into the game and made a few shots."

Zamora finished with 22 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots. Senior Alex Bavinchuk added 15 points and nine rebounds.

Julian Figueroa's 24 points and 10 rebounds led Pasco, while T.J. Avery added eight points including two free throws with 0.1 seconds left in regulation.
