Kamiakin No. 3 in XC polls, TCP boys No. 1

We are neck deep in high school football here at the Herald right now, what with our football special section set to come out Friday.

But the cross country preseason coaches poll came out late Sunday night, and there was plenty of note for Mid-Columbia running fans.

The Kamiakin boys and girls are both ranked third — the boys behind five-time defending state champion North Central of Spokane and Belleuve, the girls behind the last two state champs, Glacier Peak and Shadle Park.

Less than a month ago, Dyestat.com ranked the Kamiakin boys eighth in the nation and North Central 14th.

Eisenhower, which last fall halted the Greater Spokane League's run of 22 straight big-school state titles, returns as the No. 1 boys team in the 4A. Ferris is the top-ranked GSL team at No. 3, followed by Wenatchee at No. 4. Walla Walla is ranked eighth.

The Walla Walla girls are ranked seventh, with CBBN rival Ike No. 2 behind Bellarmine Prep.

Tri-Cities Prep, which returns every runner from last year's B state champion, is the obvious No. 1 on the boys side, with Waitsburg-Prescott No. 9. The Royal boys are ranked No. 10 in the 1A.
