Mendenhall leads Southridge boys by Eastmont

KENNEWICK -- Matt Mendenhall had a solid all-around game and Southridge handled Eastmont 70-57 on Saturday to advance to the CBBN 3A district tournament championship game.

Mendenhall finished with 24 points, seven assists and six steals to lead the Suns (12-9), who will play at Kamiakin at 7 p.m. Friday for the district title.

"We got off to a real fast start," Southridge coach Jason DeVere said. "They made about five runs at us and we just withstood every one. We played a good, solid basketball game."

Derek Porter added 20 points, while Dallin Palmer chipped in with 11 points for Southridge, which shot 50 percent from the field.

KAMIAKIN 55, WEST VALLEY 38

Kamiakin's defense shut down West Valley, holding the visiting Rams scoreless in the second quarter for a 28-14 halftime lead.

"That (quarter) just kind of separated the game," Kamiakin coach Brian Meneely said.

Tyler Holle was the Braves' top scorer with 13 points.

The Braves will host Southridge at 7 p.m. Friday for the district title.

Davis 51, Walla Walla 35

Davonte Luckett and Marcus McClurkin combined for 34 points, lifting host Davis over Walla Walla in the CBBN 4A semifinals.

The Pirates will host Richland in the district championship at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Blue Devils held four of Davis' starters to 15 points combined, but Luckett scored a game-high 18 points while McClurkin came off the bench for 16 more.
