Burbank, Ki-Be boys fall in SCAC

BURBANK -- Brandon Oswalt scored a game-high 20 points for Granger as the Spartans knocked off host Columbia-Burbank 65-47 on Thursday night in the first round of the SCAC district tournament.

Nathan Roberts had 16 points for the Coyotes (11-10), who face a loser-out matchup with Connell on Saturday.

"We started off on the wrong foot in the first quarter," Burbank coach DJ Traver said of his team's 22-15 first-quarter deficit, which worsened to 41-26 by halftime. "We definitely didn't play the game we needed to play."

Tanner Woody added 14 points for the Coyotes.

Mick Phelps had 12 points for Kiona-Benton, Kaden Milliren had 14 points for host Goldendale and the Bears fell to the Timberwolves in an SCAC district tournament game.

Zane MacRae had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds to boost the Goldendale attack.

"Just jumped on them early," said coach Jay Thacker, whose Timberwolves forced 15 turnovers in the first half. "We played really good defense in the first half.

Ki-Be coach Jack Rose said his team's 20-4 first-quarter deficit "set the tone" for the remainder of the contest.

"We came out like garbage in the first quarter," Rose said. "They took it to us in the first quarter."

MABTON 51, NACHES VALLEY 49

The Vikings survived despite a scare in the first round of the SCAC district tournament.

Mabton took a 51-48 lead with less than 5 seconds left after making 1 of 2 free throws on three consecutive trips down the court.

Naches Valley then had a chance to send the game to overtime when Derek Huck was fouled on a three-quarters court shot attempt with less than 1 second remaining.

Huck made the first foul shot, missed the second and intentionally missed the third, but a tip-in attempt rolled off the rim.

"We knew they were going to be tough," Mabton coach Brock Ledgerwood said.

Jesus Huecias had five points, five assists and five steals for Mabton, while Kristian Carrasco scored 17 points.

Jeremy Goddett's 18 points and 11 rebounds led Naches Valley.
