Leavitt leads Kennewick boys over Pasco

KENNEWICK -- Bryce Leavitt's near triple-double led the Kennewick Lions to a 75-48 win over visiting Pasco on Friday night and into a tie for second place in the CBBN 3A.

Leavitt piled up 25 points, nine rebounds and nine assists for the Lions (5-3), tied with Southridge after the Suns were upset by Sunnyside (3-5).

Luis Santiago added 15 points and Reggie Clinton 12 for Kennewick, which enjoyed a rare double-digit victory after playing in so many close games this season. The Lions led 38-14 at the half.

T.J. Avery and Brandon Mendoza each scored 11 points for Pasco, and Brandon Search added 10.

Sunnyside 53, Southridge 47

Trey Serl scored eight of his 11 points during a key fourth-quarter run that allowed Sunnyside to erase a 10-point deficit and beat Southridge in Kennewick.

Serl hit a clutch 3-pointer with 3:40 left in the game that gave the Grizzlies a 43-42 lead, and Sunnyside built their advantage from there.

"When we went 10 down it was kind of a gut-check time, but we didn't panic," said Grizzlies coach Ron Rowe. "We were pretty fortunate to keep the ball away from (Suns guard Matt) Mendenhall. That gave us the advantage we needed to climb back into the game."

Mendenhall led Southridge with 17 points, and Derek Porter added 16. Israel Manzo scored 22 for Sunnyside.

Tyler Holle scored 15 points and had three steals, and Garrett Anderson added eight points and 10 boards as Kamiakin remained unbeaten in the CBBN 3A with a road win.
