Chiawana girls bounce back with win over Kamiakin

KENNEWICK -- Hayley Hodgins, Mikaela Rivard and Shelby Ellsworth all scored in double figures as Chiawana bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 62-47 nonconference victory at Kamiakin on Tuesday.

Hodgins finished with 20 points, while Rivard had 16 and Ellsworth finished with 10 points.

The Riverhawks (4-1) lost 61-60 to Moses Lake on Friday in their CBBN 4A opener, letting a late lead get away.

On Tuesday, that was no such problem, as Chiawana raced out to a 29-16 halftime lead and led 48-30 after three quarters.

Khadidja Toure led Kamiakin (2-4) with 20 points, while Kassy Larson added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Richland 57, Pasco 28

Mandy Machinal had 15 points and seven rebounds for Richland in a nonleague home win over Pasco.

Pasco came alive in the fourth quarter, outscoring Richland 15-6 but it wasn't enough to make a difference as the Bombers led the game 51-13 at the close of the third.

"Pasco played hard for 32 minutes," Bombers coach Jerry Riggs said. "They were down big and didn't give up, and credit to them for not giving up."

Katie Mahoney had nine points for Richland, Jalyn von Oehlhoffen and Kennedy Corrigan added six more points apiece and Anna Croskrey pulled down seven rebounds.

Yessica Diaz was the only Pasco player to score in double digits, leading the team with 11 points.

Melissa Amaro had 11 points for Sunnyside, Addie Palencia added nine more, and Vanessa Alvarez and Priscilla Bermudez had six points apiece but it wasn't enough as Davis, piloted by Taryn Cobane's game-high 23 points, outplayed the Grizzlies in a road non league contest.

Eastmont's Charity Degman double-doubled with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Nikki Gilbert snagged nine steals as the Wildcats defeated visiting Pasco in a CBBN 3A action Monday.

Yessica Diaz led the Bulldogs' efforts with 12 points.
