BOISE -- Kamiakin's Anthony Armstrong punched his ticket to Nike Cross Nationals, placing fourth in the boys Northwest Regional on Saturday.
The Braves junior, who placed third in the 3A state meet last weekend, finished the 5K course in 15 minutes, 44.9 seconds.
The top two teams and top five individuals not on a team qualified for nationals Dec. 4 in Portland.
The Kamiakin boys and girls received team invites to the regional and placed 11th and 12th. Walla Walla's boys finished 10th, led by senior Aaron Nelson's 10th-place finish in 15:56.9. Wa-Hi junior JP Wolpert was 27th (16:16.1).
Kamiakin sophomore Michelle Fletcher posted a strong finish in the girls race, finishing 29th in 19:12.6.
Spokane schools fared well, with Kenji Bierig of Lewis & Clark (15:34.1) and Katie Knight of North Central (17:34.0) claiming the individual titles. North Central won the boys title ahead of LC. Jesuit of Portland took the girls crown, with Bozeman, Mont., grabbing the second national berth.
The post-state cross country season continues next Sunday, Nov. 21, in Beaverton, Ore., with the Border Clash, pitting the top runners from Washington and Oregon.
