Girls hoops: Wapato ends Othello's season

WAPATO -- Wapato's A.J. Yarlott hit the game-winner with less than 2 seconds to play, lifting the Wolves to a 54-53 CWAC district win over visiting Othello.

Wapato moves on to play Ellensburg on Saturday at Sunnyside High School, while the Huskies' season is over.

Christine Kirkwood led Othello with 15 points, while Tiffany Martinez added nine points and 10 rebounds.

SPOKANE -- Melanie Laete led all scorers with 11 points, adding eight rebounds, and Erica Hansen iced the victory for the Eagles (16-6) with 3-of-4 free throws in the final 20 seconds.

Trailing by 14 after three quarters, the Patriots (12-10) narrowed the gap to five with a 13-4 run, but could get no closer, turning the ball over on consecutive possessions when they were behind 40-35.

Leading the way for the Patriots was Hannah Berges' 10 points.

DeSales 50, Orcas Island 31

SPOKANE -- The DeSales Irish (17-5) scored 45 points in the final three quarters to beat Orcas Island (12-7).

Senior Caitlin Duncan erupted for nine points in the second quarter for the Irish, all via the 3-point shot, and finished with a team-high 20 on 5-of-8 shooting and three 3-pointers, sitting most of the fourth quarter with the game well in hand.
