Loera sparks Moses Lake to 71-52 win

TACOMA -- Moses Lake went 0-3 in winner's bracket games this postseason, but the Chiefs (16-13) improved to 6-0 in consolation games -- including 4-0 in loser-out contests.

"We worked hard to get to these games, so to lose now wouldn't be right," said junior Jordan Loera, who scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had six assists.

Thanks to a 71-52 win over Marysville-Pilchuck, Moses plays Newport (20-6) at 12:30 p.m. today, with the winner playing for the fifth-place trophy Saturday.

Moses Lake used a 9-0 run late in the first half to break away from Marysville-Pilchuck (17-8), which tied the game at 25 on Morgan Martinis' fourth 3-pointer of the half.

Loera's stepback 3 started the run, which helped ML lead 36-29 at halftime. The Chiefs never trailed again, hitting 13 of 15 free throws in the final 4 minutes to pull away.

They finished 28-of-37 at the foul line.
