TACOMA -- Two stats stood out from Moses Lake's first-round loss, 65-55, to Bellarmine Prep (19-7), the WCD runner-up.
ML junior Jordan Loera continued her shooting struggles from regionals, going just 4-for-17 in scoring 15 points, and the Lions went 20-of-25 from the foul line in the second half in sending the Chiefs (15-13) to the consolation bracket for the first time in three state appearances.
"Definitely the key to the game was they made their free throws in the second half," said ML coach Matt Strophy, whose team was whistled for 27 fouls. "They kept attacking and attacking, and we couldn't stop it. That was costly."
The Chiefs were within 35-29 midway through the third quarter when Bellarmine took control, going on a 16-4 run capped by a technical on Strophy that resulted in a four-point possession.

ML got within eight twice in the final two minutes, the final time at 59-51 on two Loera free throws with 1:47 left.
"They were quick enough that we couldn't get Jordan around the corner on the pick-and-roll," said Strophy, whose team plays Marysville-Pilchuck at 2 p.m. today in a loser-out game. "And we had too many turnovers (22 for 23 Bellarmine points)."
Loera added 10 rebounds and five assists.
Sarah Hartwell led the Lions with 18 points.
