CBBN boys: Kamiakin wins regional opener

KENNEWICK -- Kamiakin clamped down defensively on University, holding the Titans to 26 percent shooting (16-for-61) Tuesday in a 60-45 first-round 4A Eastern Regional win.

The Braves (19-5), making their first 4A regional appearance since 2000, face Mead (18-5) at 7 p.m. Friday in the semifinals at Toyota Center.

University (11-12) will meet Davis (18-7) at 9 p.m. in a loser-out game. Mead beat Davis 60-55 in Spokane in their opener.

Kamiakin outscored U-Hi 30-12 in the first half, holding the Titans to just four field goals, and a balanced offense kept University defenders off balance.

Tyler Holle, Garrett Anderson and Justin Pedley combined for 37 points to lead Kamiakin.

"Our goal was to really contest them at the 3-point line," said Braves coach Brian Meneely. "We didn't want to give them any open looks without hands in their faces."

Meneely was also pleased with his team's work on the boards.

"We wanted to limit them to one shot, and they only got one offensive rebound in the first half," he said.

Spencer Drury led U-Hi with 20 points.
