CBBN girls: Richland shoots down Wenatchee

RICHLAND -- Richland put together one of its best performances of the season at the right time, hitting eight 3-pointers and pulling away down the stretch to clinch a 4A Eastern Regional berth by winning 50-36 at Wenatchee in the CBBN 4A districts.

"Offensively, we shared the ball well and knocked down open looks," said Bombers coach Kristen Davis, whose team went 8-of-23 from beyond the arc. "On defense, we were real aggressive and got into them in the full court."

Mandy Machinal led a balanced attack with 12 points, and Megan Sax pulled down 15 rebounds for Richland, which hosts Moses Lake in a seeding game today.

KENNEWICK -- Heather Worley went over 1,000 points for her Southridge career, but Moses Lake spoiled the night by outscoring the Suns 21-4 in the fourth quarter to erase a 43-35 deficit and clinch an Eastern Regional berth by winning a CBBN 4A district road game.

"We just quit playing offense," said Suns coach Scott Stiles of his team's fourth-quarter collapse. "We had problems finishing the game. We were afraid to play, and we started doing things we hadn't done all year."

The Suns now face a win-or-go-home game tonight in Wenatchee against their fellow Columbia Division co-champs.

"The girls were down after the game," Stiles said. "But we've got to get on the bus with a different attitude. Whichever team overcomes their loss the quickest has the best opportunity to win tomorrow."

Jordan Loera led Moses Lake with 16 points, and Megan Sutherland hit a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth-quarter rally.
