CBBN girls: Kamiakin pulls upset for first league W

KENNEWICK -- Khadidja Toure scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting, and the Kamiakin girls earned their first CBBN Cascade win of the season Friday night, upsetting No. 5 West Valley 53-37 in Kennewick.

Toure was also 9-of-13 at the free-throw line in helping the Braves snap a seven-game losing streak.

"We finally played all four quarters tonight," said Kamiakin coach Tammy Hutchison.

EAST WENATCHEE -- Mandy Machinal scored eight of her game-high 24 points in the opening quarter as Richland jumped out to a 24-7 lead en route to a CBBN Cascade road win.

Machinal finished 11-of-19 from the field, and Katie Mahoney was 3-of-5 from 3-point range in chipping in nine points.

MOSES LAKE -- Kayla Bernsen scored 14 of her 18 points in the second half as Moses Lake erased a 27-19 halftime deficit and won a CBBN Columbia home game.

Danielle Walter scored 28 points for the Bulldogs, who saw their two starting posts both go down with injuries -- junior Claudia Olguin with an apparent ACL tear in her knee, while senior Missy Everson suffered a toe injury.

The Suns travel to Wenatchee tonight in a matchup of the division's top two teams. Southridge won the first meeting 36-34 in Kennewick.
