A busy state slate is on tap this weekend for the area’s remaining prep football and girls soccer squads.
Lampson Stadium will host a quarterfinal football doubleheader Saturday, with Kamiakin (9-2) hosting Bonney Lake (9-2) at 1 p.m. in a Class 3A contest and Richland (11-0) playing Bothell (9-2) at 5 p.m. in the 4A.
Also Saturday, Connell (10-1) is on the road to take on Meridian (7-4) in a 1A quarterfinal at 1 p.m. at Bellingham’s Civic Stadium. On the other side of the bracket, top-ranked and defending champion Royal (10--0) entertains La Salle (10-1) at 7 p.m.
In the 2B ranks, Dayton-Waitsburg (10-1) will play Liberty of Spangle (10-1) at 4 p.m. Saturday at Edgar Brown Stadium.
On the soccer pitch, the Tri-Cities has a pair of teams alive for state titles.
First, Southridge (19-2) plays Bishop Blanchet (10-6-3) in a 3A match, the first of a semifinal quadruple header at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup. The winner will take on Seattle Prep or Bellevue for the state title at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Hanford (19-3) and West Valley of Yakima (17-2) will wrap up Friday’s festivities in the second 4A semifinal. The winner will play either Skyline or Camas in the championship at 4 p.m. Saturday.
The Falcons lost to the Rams 3-2 in their season-opener. It was the most goals they allowed all season and equals the total they have given up on their current 10-match winning streak.
