ONTARIO, Ore. — Walla Walla’s hopes of reaching the NWAACC championship ended abruptly Friday with a pair of losses in the East Regional tournament.
Walla Walla fell to Yakima Valley 11-10 in 10 innings, then lost a pitchers duel with Wenatchee Valley 2-1.
Former Moses Lake standout Mitch Yada handcuffed the Warriors with a six-hit, complete-game victory. Jesse Houser, who last year at this time was leading Kamiakin to the state title, threw eight innings of four-hit ball but lost the game on Jo Itokazu’s two-run double in the seventh.
The Warriors seemed well on their way to a win in the opener.
Former Kennewick standout Jarod Gonzales belted a pair of home runs for six RBIs as Walla Walla pulled ahead 9-5 after three innings of an early slugfest. But the Warriors were undone by their defense — a shocking eight errors that led to four unearned runs in the final four innings.
WVC lost its opener 8-7 in 16 innings to Treasaure Valley. The host Chukars and Yaks were still playing at 10:30 Friday.
