LONGVIEW -- Columbia Basin College baseball saw it season end Saturday, falling 6-1 to the team victimized hours before by what some are calling the greatest catch in the history of the sport.
Everett Community College (32-11) scored twice in the first, and that would be enough for Alex Shaffer (8-2) who went eight innings and allowed just two hits.
Richland lefty Chris Cecil (2-3) pitched 5 1/3 innings with five strikeouts, one walk and giving up five hits. He left trailing 3-0, but just one of those runs was earned. Shorstop Adam Young and pinch hitter Seth Lochridge were the only CBC batters with hits.
Columbia Basin (25-23) finished the season on a six-game losing streak. Among CBC's departing sophomores is pitcher Arturo Reyes, a right-hander from Warden and a second-team All-NWAACC selection.

Everett rightfielder Keone Kela, robbed of a game-tying homer Friday night in YouTube fashion by Lower Columbia's Derrick Salberg, went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.
Later in the day, Everett eliminated Yakima Valey from the rain-plagued tournament 6-0.
