Benecke leads CBC women's soccer to win

PASCO -- Jordan Benecke scored in the 47th minute to lead Columbia Basin past visiting Yakima Valley 2-1 on Wednesday in Pasco in an NWAACC East match.

CBC (7-2-3 league) will play host to North leader Everett on Friday in a replay of a Sept. 24 match. A referee who primarily works high school games mistakenly issued a yellow card to an Everett player for wearing jewelry.

Under college rules, the player should have been told to leave the field and remove the jewelry.

Later, the player left the game on a red card. Everett protested the match, and it was rescheduled.

"We played out the rest of the match, won the match (3-0). We probably should have stopped after the 30th minute (when the first yellow card happened)," CBC coach Matt Mills said.

But, he added, "We're still in second place, even without those points."
