Jacque Ines, a 2013 Kennewick High School graduate who competes for the University of Washington Boxing Club, won her second national collegiate title.
During Saturday’s National Collegiate Boxing Association championship finals in Seattle, Ines won by decision over Heather Parcasio of Air Force to claim the women’s 125-pound title.
Ines was an NCBA champion as a freshman and took second last year.
Ines helped the UW women win their third consecutive team championship.
Track and field
Eastern Washington thrower Kaytlyn Coleman (Kennewick) received another Big Sky Track and Field Athlete of the Week honor.
Coleman has gotten the weekly honor six times during her senior year — three in the indoor season and three in the outdoor season.
The latest recognition for Coleman came after she broke school and meet records in the hammer throw (200 feet, 1 inch) and won the shot put (47-7 1/4) at last week’s Pelluer Invitational in Cheney.
Columbia Basin College sophomore Kadi Patterson (Hanford) was named an NWAC Player of the Week after a torrid stretch at the plate.
In doubleheaders against Big Bend and Treasure Valley, Patterson batted .692 (9-for-13) with three doubles, five home runs and 11 RBIs. She also scored six runs.
Patterson is batting .432 (32-for-74) for the season, tallying eight doubles, six homers, 25 RBIs and 22 runs scored for the NWAC East-leading Hawks.
▪ Emily Benson (Kamiakin) went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs as Western Washington beat Concordia 12-4 in the first game of their Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday in Portland.
Concordia won the second game 8-0 in six innings.
Whitworth’s Shane Sandlin (Hanford) defeated Lewis-Clark State College’s Tony Chin 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles Sunday to help the Pirates beat the Warriors 6-3.
It was the first win over the Warriors in head coach Mike Shanks’ 17-year career.
Sandlin and partner Caleb Hughes lost 9-7 at No. 2 doubles to Quentin Wacquez and Andres Bustani.
On the women’s side, LCSC’s Stephanie Buckingham (Kennewick) beat Emma Jo Wiley 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (1) at No. 2 singles as the Warriors won 5-4.
Buckingham then teamed with Deanri Human at No. 2 doubles for an 8-6 win over Wiley and Jennifer Adams.
Trevor Jones (Hanford) hit an RBI double in the fifth inning and drove in another run in the ninth as Bellevue University beat Viterbo University 6-0 in the first game of their North Star Athletic Association doubleheader Sunday in La Crosse, Wis.
Jake Browne (Hanford) caught the second game for Bellevue, and Jones drove in a run as the Bruins (31-6, 10-1 NSAA) completed the sweep with a 5-1 victory.
