BATON ROUGE, La. -- Jace Fry allowed one run through five innings and Oregon State's bullpen pitched a shutout the rest of the way as the Beavers opened the NCAA tournament with a 2-1 victory over Belmont at the Baton Rouge Regional on Friday.
Kennewick High grad Tony Bryant (6-2) pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win, and Matt Boyd pitched the rest of the way for Oregon State (39-18) for his third save.
Chase Brookshire (8-4) took the loss despite yielding only two runs on three hits in seven innings.
Oregon State's Ryan Barnes, who went 2 for 3, scored the game's first run after his double in the second inning and he drove home the winning run with a squeeze bunt in the sixth.
Belmont (39-23) briefly tied the game in the top of the fifth when Dylan Craig led off with a triple and came home on Zac Mitchell's groundout.
