Thompson, Cougars tune up for regular season

PULLMAN — Klay Thompson scored a game-high 19 points, including 4-of-4 from behind the 3-point line to help Washington State to a 73-51 exhibition victory over Lewis-Clark State on Monday at Beasley Coliseum.

DeAngelo Casto added 14 points and 11 rebounds as all 15 players that dressed for the game played.

It’s the Cougars’ lone preseason game and final tuneup for the regular season, which starts Friday against Mississippi Valley State.

It will mark the second-straight season the Cougars will open up their season with the Delta Devils. Last year, WSU won 76-25.

Ken Bone enters his first season as the WSU head coach, taking over a team that went 17-16 last season and lost in the first round of the NIT.

Thompson is one of two returning starters after ranking third on the team last year with 12.5 points per game and was named to the six-man Pac-10 Conference All-Freshman Team

WSU has just one upperclassman on its roster.
