* 1986 -- Terry Martin of Walla Walla, driving a Pontiac Firebird, surprised the field by jumping into the lead on the 24th lap to take command and win the 35-lap main event in the Joe Wofford Memorial Race for late model super stocks in front of a crowd estimated at 1,000 at Tri-City Raceways.

* 1952 -- Gene Conley made a sensational debut in the American Association when he posted a 5-2 victory over Columbus. The right-hander from Richland shut down the Columbus bats with a two-hitter.

* 1950 -- Boston Red Sox scout Glenn Wright said he was impressed with the hustle of Tri-City Braves shortstop Buddy Peterson in a contest against Spokane earlier in the week.
