* 2002 -- Junior Gonzalez (130 pounds), Tony Chapin (140), Kyle Nickerson (160), Josh Corriell (189) and heavyweight Kevin Hunter each earned pins as the Kiona-Benton wrestling team defeated Grandview 42-26 in a CWAC South match.

* 1999 -- Regan Darby and Jaroslav Kristek each scored a goal, but it wasn't enough as the Tri-City Americans fell to the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors 5-2.

* 1979 -- Under an Associated Press photograph titled "A visit from Mike" ran the caption: "Pasco's Michael Jackson brought a few gifts and a lot of cheer to young Gene Hopkins at the Shriners' Hospital in San Francisco last week. Jackson, the University of Washington's star linebacker, visited the hospital with other players from the annual East-West Shrine game to be played in Palo Alto Saturday."

* 1979 -- Despite missing five performers because of illness, Hanford's gymnastics team stayed close before losing an 83.5-73.18 decision to Wenatchee. The Falcons' Sydnie Cearlock placed first on the bars (4.5) and third in the all-around (4.275), Barbara Marsh was second on the vault (5.25) and Karen Pettyjohn finished third on the bars (4.05).
