* 1995 -- Daanyal McKelvey, a 6-foot-5 freshman, made all six of his field goal attempts en route to 14 points for Columbia Basin as the Hawks basketball team opened the season with a 75-60 victory over the Linfield junior varsity squad at the McDonald's Classic tournament.
* 1984 -- An overflow crowd of 8,000 watched as Juanita handed Kennewick a 14-7 loss in a 3A semifinal at Fran Rish Stadium. The Rebels earned their first trip to state thanks to two fumble recoveries, two interceptions and the running of tailback Kirk Steck. Running back Ty Fischer scored on a three-yard run for the Lions, who ended the season at 10-2. Juanita advanced to win Kingbowl VIII in Seattle on Dec. 1 with a 41-27 defeat of South Kitsap.
* 1977 -- The Eastern Washington and Oregon ski seasons opened on schedule Thanksgiving Day with 20 inches of snow reported at Spout Springs in the Blue Mountains and 46 inches reported at Mt. Hood Meadows.
