“Once it’s gone, it’s gone.” I’m sure you have heard that phrase before. Now it is referring to our own backyard. While our area is not lush forests or white sand beaches it is a unique shrub steppe habitat and deserves to be around for the next generation to experience. To that end, Prop 14-7 gives voters the opportunity to support its preservation. A yes vote will advise the Benton County commissioners to create the Benton County Conservation Futures Fund which will provide capital to acquire and maintain land that might otherwise be lost forever. Establishing this fund will attract matching funds to our county from state, federal and other sources that would multiply the dollars raised locally. The vote on Nov. 4th is an advisory vote to support the creation of a futures fund to provide capital for acquiring land to preserve.
