Letter: Public safety tax: Yes

April 10, 2014 12:00 AM

I am writing to support the Citizens for Safe Communities group's promotion of the Benton County public safety sales tax. For three cents on a $10 purchase, the community will be able to fund more law enforcement officers to improve our public's safety. The money will fund the Metro Drug Task Force, drug court, pay for gang prevention and intervention and a mental health court.

This measure, and the amount of the proposed tax, has been fully studied by taxpaying citizens and identified as the amount needed to help law enforcement with promoting public safety. This ballot measure has the support of many business people and professionals, and I include my name in that list. I encourage you to vote yes for the public safety sale tax on Aug. 5.
