Letter: Assault weapons should not be available for the general public

AP

There is a wide range of normality in the human animal, good and bad. A “normal” human being is subject to bad choices or acting on impulse. There is no way to predict who, under certain circumstances, will act responsibility or violently. Add to this the legal means available now — firearms, concealed or other including assault weapons, alcohol, and now marijuana, the family automobile, we have the potential to kill and have killed.

Assault weapons are used by the military and SWAT teams. They should not be available for the general public except under strict guidelines. If human beings, in our society, increasingly feel the need to be armed, it is and has been a recipe for disaster. I am not saying they don’t have the legal right, but it is the trend and mind set that I find disturbing.
