Many people today express doubt in leadership and feel government is inept or destined to fail.
However, we can trust politicians to behave in their own interest, and to pursue agendas reflecting their worldview.
Republicans say government impedes free enterprise solving our problems. Democrats feel government serves the people, not profits.
In Kansas, Republicans cut taxes for the wealthy and slashed education funding — then tried to disempower the judiciary which found their drastic measures unconstitutional. Corporations see a poorly educated state with crumbling, obsolete infrastructure. Kansas’ economy and children are suffering, yet GOP politicians insist this is why they were elected.
In Alabama, the Republican chief justice, speaker of the house, and governor are involved in scandals that threaten their positions. Commenting on the egregious ethical and legal violations by the leadership of his own political party, Republican State Senator Cam Ward explained, “People have a distrust in government ... this kind of affirms what people have been thinking.”
When government fails, Republicans say, “I told you so.”
Unlike Republicans, who promise they’ll let you down, it’s in Democrats’ best interest to do a good job — because Democrats look better when government works well.
