Letter: Thanks to those who supported Veterans Stand Down

On behalf of the board and staff of Columbia Basin Veterans Coalition, we’d like to thank our sponsors, volunteers and vendors who supported the recent Veterans Stand Down, held at Southridge Sports Pavilion.

The event provided a veteran’s resource fair to honor veterans and their service to our country and outreach to veterans who are challenged by stable housing, financial, employment or educational issues.

More than 30 volunteers assisted in honoring and supporting more than 300 registered veterans to meet with 55 agencies and businesses that specialize in assisting local veterans and their families. The Walla Walla VA gave 75 flu shots, and housed five individuals for immediate housing. Paul Mitchell Beauty School donated 80 free haircuts and Texas Roadhouse provided 500 meals. Classes were offered, veteran musicians provided music and there was clothing and military surplus giveaways.

The numbers alone weren’t the measure of success of this event; the real achievement was seeing veterans of all ages and all eras connecting with other veteran brothers and sisters and their families.

We continue to honor and offer our sincerest thank you to those men and women who served and continue to serve our great country.

Joetta Rupert, Executive Director, Pasco
