As a soccer fan, educator, mother and grandmother, I have read the articles about the U.S. women’s soccer team with interest.
No hope to bring Solo home? Richland Mayor David Rose’s words stunned me! “I was wondering if the city could recognize her somehow, but I couldn’t think of anything appropriate.”
When my daughter started playing soccer in Prosser in about 1988, there weren’t enough girls to make up a team. Eventually, thanks to great volunteer coaches, she played K-12. She even played in a high school game against Hope Solo.
The last Hope Solo Day was seven years ago. That’s a long ago for young girls. Let’s look to L.A., where 10,000 people turned up for the rally wearing shirts like “Equal Pay 4 (female) Athletes.”

Mayor Rose, let’s invite the whole team to inspire our girls!
