I would like to applaud the effort of Pasco city councilman Bob Hoffman for attempting to get the council to express public support for Barronelle Stutzman, the owner of Arlene's Flowers.
Now, before everyone gets their underwear in a wad, take a deep breath and realize that he is not asking for a stand on gay marriage. He is asking for a stand against the state attorney general, Bob Ferguson, using his office and resources to hammer a private citizen.
Apparently because gay rights is a hot button topic right now, Ferguson has decided that those rights supersede the rights of Ms. Stutzman. This is another example of government intruding into everything we do, but what it really smacks of is Ferguson pandering to the liberal left side of the state.
How about in order to keep it from being too uncomfortable for the rest of the council, Mr. Hoffman rewrites his proposal to just say Butt Out!?

One has to wonder where all the righteous indignation would be if this was a case of Arlene’s refusing to do flowers for a skinhead couple that wanted swastikas as part of the decor. Non-issue, right?
