Once again Dan K. Thomasson regales us with a tirade about the evils of the Second Amendment (TCH July 1). He proclaims Obama tried to bring about expansion of background checks to purchase “weapons of mass destruction” only to be defeated by “all the campaign dollars stuffed in lawmakers’ pockets.”
He apparently doesn’t know that all that money comes from the $10 and $20 donations given by the American people concerned about the erosion of their freedoms by progressive liberals.
Then he goes on to ask the question “would this have prevented the tragedy in Charleston …? He fails to even suggest an answer to that one. Then he proclaims that the shooter was given the .45-caliber weapon used in the shooting by his father. A statement later clarified as not true (the father gave him a gift of cash).
Mr. Thomasson then makes a remark about the “romance of the gun society.” He seems to think the gun romance is part and parcel a product of the NRA instead of the Hollywood output which has propagated the theme of violence and destruction for over a century.
If Mr. Thomasson was really interested in reduction of gun violence he would direct his attention toward the lack of mental health facilities.
