A prominent TV news commentator often comments to his guests with "After all, I am a simple man." I recently read where a better poverty fighter than raising the minimum wage was to expand the earned income tax credit (EITC) to childless adults. Once again the politicians and special interests want to revise the current federal tax code to what end? They want to increase the take-home pay of single mothers by increasing the minimum wage, double the credit that childless adults receive as a percentage of their eligible income and lower the age of eligibility for EITC from 25 to 21. I read where up to 26 percent of the payments under EITC were made in error.
I am a simple man, but I know a better way to increase the take-home pay of all workers. It is called the FAIR TAX (HR25). It would do away with the income tax code. The results would be more take home pay for everyone, businesses can spend the time and money to comply with the current tax code by investing and expanding their businesses. More jobs would mean more competition and higher wages for all with less room for error.
