My husband and I were driving east on Interstate 82 from Benton City to Kennewick. It was late and very dark when we blew a left front tire. I called 911 to alert the Washington State Patrol we were on the shoulder of the road while waiting for our son to come and change our tire.
We are senior citizens and not able to change a tire with traffic moving very fast and close. A state trooper arrived within 15 minutes, parked behind us with a spotlight and said he would start to change the tire. When our son arrived, the trooper suggested our son follow us home since we were driving on a spare "doughnut" tire and should not go more than 50 mph.
We certainly appreciated the trooper's help. He was courteous, professional, friendly and very reassuring to two senior citizens late at night on a dark busy freeway. He went beyond the call of duty by changing our tire.
Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste should be very proud of the caliber of troopers trained to serve our state.
