Letter: Bikes for Tykes

Thank you United Association Local Union 598 Plumbers and Steamfitters, Kiona-Benton and Richand high schools, Tri-Tech Skills Center, and the rest of the volunteers who put together 1,300 "Bikes for Tykes" in three hours last Friday. Since then, they've provided 400 more bikes.

This program was started four years ago with 100 bikes, then 500 bikes in the second year, 1,168 bikes last year and this year more than 1,700.

Local 598 and donations make this possible. The bikes are given to the Marines and other charities for distribution. The cardboard the bikes come in is donated to the Shriners, who sell it for fuel money to transport children and their families to the Shriners Hospital.

CANDY McGRAIL, Pasco
