When I began Running Start over at Columbia Basin College, I had to get used to having only four days of school a week compared with five days of school a week in high school.
Within a few weeks, I realized four days of school is more valuable than five days. Not only did it make my homework load easier to deal with, but it allowed for more study time. My grades increased and my stress decreased.
The public school districts in the Tri-Cities should take this schedule into consideration. Since the school districts already have to incorporate furlough days because of school budgets a few times a month, they should take Fridays out of the schedule altogether.
It would benefit the students and the teachers. The teachers would have more time to prep for classes and grade assignments, and the students would have more time to complete homework and study.
All in all, having four-day school weeks instead of five-day school weeks would be a positive change to consider for the upcoming school years.
