Bill would hurt moms
U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers is at it again. She recently wrote, "I am similar to the millions of other working moms in this country who understand firsthand how difficult it is to balance the demands of a job with the obligations of a family." She writes this in promoting a bill the House just passed that will make it even harder for working families to make ends meet by allowing their employers to escape paying overtime.
Oh, please. A congresswoman earns $175,000 for working part-time, gets the best health insurance known to humankind and a lifetime pension (even if only serving a single term) that exceeds what most of us will ever get.
Cathy also has a husband at her side who presumably earns a paycheck. She has a gym at her disposable and God knows what all else. This in no way compares nor does it allow her to claim understanding of what it means to be a "working mom."
Gee, Cathy. Try being single, depending on a deadbeat dad, food stamps and a lousy job in a lousy economy. This bill is designed solely to let her big-business buddies hog a greater share of the pie.
