I have known Barronelle Stutzman, the owner of Arlene's Flowers, for more than 30 years. She is a deeply committed Christian. She does not hate anyone.
When a florist is asked to do a wedding, she is using her creative talents to beautify the place for the celebration, and works closely with the couple and others involved in the planning of the event. That would be very awkward for someone who believes that marriage is between a man and a woman. That level of involvement is far different from making floral arrangements and selling them at your place of business.
The Washington State Constitution, article 1 section 11, entitled "religious freedom" states "absolute freedom of conscience in all matters of religious sentiment, belief, and worship, shall be guaranteed to every individual, and no one shall be molested or disturbed in person or property on account of religion."
Our country was founded on religious freedom, and what is happening to Barronelle Stutzman is an absolute shame. If you doubt my words, go to Arlene's Flowers Facebook page and read all the shocking, hateful things that are being said about her. This should not be happening in America.
