RICHARD DUNBAR, Pasco
If successful, the efforts by this administration to pass more gun-control laws will make us less safe and encourage more criminals to commit horrendous crimes like what happened in Connecticut.
Most crimes are committed by spineless cowards looking for defenseless victims. The more defenseless, the better to them. When law-abiding citizens are able to defend themselves, criminals look somewhere else. You should be asking why would anyone be pushing this agenda when all the evidence shows this to be true. Defenseless people will result in more victims.
If laws prevented crime, there would be no speeders, no rapes, no assaults, no burglaries, no drug abusers and no murders. But laws do not prevent crime. Laws are there to convict law breakers when there is enough evidence to convict them beyond a reasonable doubt. Police can't do anything until after a law has been broken.
It is the responsibility of all law-abiding citizens to protect themselves and to protect those who can't or won't protect themselves against evil people. The way to reduce crime is to have better security, not more restrictive gun laws that punish the innocent and reward the criminals.
