Gay pride success

Mid-Columbia Pride 2012 was a huge success. Across the Tri-Cities, from Pasco to Richland, folks were celebrating diversity and embracing the breadth of the LGBTA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied) community.

The community events occurred in places many people thought pride could not happen. Yes, Ray's Golden Lion was covered in rainbows and had a drag show. Yes, John Dam Plaza was invaded by families of all kinds.

"It's all about family" was not just a theme, the organizers worked hard to have activities and events that included all the members of LGBT community. Their work paid off as people came together and enjoyed a day filled with fun, a parade, live music and food.

Out & About had days of events too, concluding Sunday with a generous fundraiser for Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays, Benton and Franklin county chapter.

Thank you to the city of Richland, Uptown Deli, Octopus Garden, amazing community event volunteers, local and statewide organizations that participated in the festival and marched, the Richland Business community and especially the Richland Parks Department for working so closely with us to make this year's festival a fun and safe event. Last but not least, a special thank you to Chris Oar and Melissa Reddout and the Mid-Columbia Pride committee!
