Everyone is quick to complain about Congress. But if we're always going to vote for the same congressman, you can't really expect Congress to change.
U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings has been in Congress 18 years and he no longer cares about the people he represents. Hastings has voted against the funding that provided thousands of jobs at Hanford and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He's voted against infrastructure improvements that would have made our roads and bridges safer. And he's voted against new laws that would reign in the excesses of the financial industry.
Instead, Hastings has voted for turning Medicare into a voucher system that will double the cost of health insurance for seniors. Hastings has voted for giving the wealthy more tax cuts. And Hastings has voted for the unnecessary subsidies to the oil industry and tax cuts for the other special interests.
Hastings' record speaks for itself: All he cares about is getting re-elected.

It's time for a change, and Mary Baechler would make a good Representative for the 4th Congressional District. She's a woman with valuable business experience. She's dedicated to preserving Medicare and Social Security benefits. And she knows that if we're going to get our fiscal house in order, the rich will also have to do their share.
