When property taxes come due, property owners complain that they are charged so many dollars on an overly strained budget.
However, few consider this a blessing, nor do they even realize where these funds go? If it were not for the funding from property taxes, we would not be able to hire policeman, firefighters, paramedics, animal control officers or run our schools. These are the benefits we have and need to live in cities.
On a 40-acre tract outside a city, you would not have these amenities. You would not even have a neighbor to see if a patio light went on in the dark hours of the night.
Now, we know it's a privilege to pay taxes. However, the raise in taxes should only be on the houses that are more than $150,000 to make it fair.
We need to play Robin Hood games in today's troubled society. It's not stealing but helps level out for a more fair assessment.
